The Central Bank of Belize maintains a collection of gold, silver and cupronickel commemorative coins dating from 1974. These are coins which have been issued to mark significant events, milestones or anniversaries in Belizean History as well as our culture, flora and fauna, and also events of global significance. The coins feature such themes as the attainment of independence, the Battle of St. George’s Caye, the Howler monkey, Mayan gods and artifacts, the jaguar, Football World Cup, Olympics etc. These coins are issued as legal tender and may be accepted at face value if offered as such. The Central Bank may, at its own determination, redeem commemorative coins at face value. Visit our coins display at the Central Bank to see all the coins that have been issued.
