Central Bank Announces Social Distancing Measures

Members of the public are hereby informed that the Central Bank of Belize will temporarily reduce physical access to the Central Bank compound, effective 26 March 2020. This measure will limit the number of persons within the main building to curb the spread of COVID-19.


  • Persons exchanging damaged currency notes or delivering mail will be directed to a temporary structure located near the Bank’s entrance. A Central Bank employee will accept currency notes for processing. Mail should be deposited in the designated drop-box.
  • Persons applying for foreign exchange permits are asked to email scanned copies of their applications along with relevant documents to:

      Alternatively, application forms with contact information may be     
      delivered to the Bank. There will be no in-person interviews. The Bank
      will notify applicants when these applications are processed.

  • All other visitors to the Central Bank must adhere to the Bank’s COVID-19 screening measures before receiving permission to enter the premises. Otherwise, they may contact the Bank via telephone or email.

These measures will be in effect until further notice. 

The Central Bank reiterates the messages from the Ministry of Health to limit social contact; avoid large crowds; and practice proper hand washing etiquette to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
