The Central Bank of Belize is pleased to announce that the new 2025 banknote series will officially enter circulation on 4 August 2025.

The new series includes enhanced security features, updated themes, and new portraits, reflecting the nation’s heritage and safeguarding the integrity of Belize’s currency. While the banknotes will have a new look, the exchange rate remains unchanged at BZ$2 to US$1.

Since the design reveal in January, the Central Bank has been actively engaging schools, businesses, financial institutions, and the public through education and outreach activities.  “We have worked diligently to ensure a smooth and secure rollout. We want every citizen to feel confident using the new banknotes,” said Governor Kareem Michael.

The new banknotes will be available at all domestic banks on the date of circulation. However, the new banknotes will not be available at all ATMs, as ATMs continue to be configured. All ATMs are expected to begin dispensing the new banknotes shortly after the circulation date.

Existing banknotes will remain legal tender. However, the Central Bank strongly encourages the public to deposit them at their financial institutions, so that they can be phased out of circulation.

We thank the public for their continued cooperation and support as we transition to this new series. To learn more about the new banknotes, visit www.centralbank.org.bz.
