Damaged Currency

Notes and coins that are impaired, diminished in size (otherwise than by fair wear and tear), mutilated, lightened, defaced by stamping, engraving, piercing, cutting or otherwise, are not legal tender.

Counterfeit Currency

The Central Bank of Belize has the sole right to issue notes and coins in Belize, and only such notes and coins issued by the Bank are legal tender in Belize. The Bank, therefore, is not legally obligated to honour counterfeit currency notes.
