November 5, 2025

In its ongoing commitment to foster a more business-friendly environment and improve operational efficiency, the Central Bank of Belize (Central Bank) has further broadened the scope of its Delegation of Authority to authorised dealers (domestic banks). This latest development enables authorised dealers to independently grant exchange control permission to residents purchasing or transferring foreign currency for eight (8) additional transaction types:

  • Advertisements
  • Business Management Consultancy
  • Freight Charges
  • Insurance Premiums
  • International and Regional Organisations
  • Military Units and Agencies
  • Pension, Taxes, and Winnings
  • Rental of Equipment

Effective 3 November 2025, customers can purchase foreign currency directly from their domestic banks for the above purposes without Central Bank exchange control approval, provided the transaction does not exceed BZ$100,000. Transactions exceeding this threshold will continue to require Central Bank approval.

To facilitate these transactions, customers must submit a completed Foreign Exchange Application (Form XCH-1) and relevant supporting documentation (such as bills, contracts, or invoices) to their domestic bank. This documentation may be in physical or electronic format.

For detailed, transaction-specific requirements, stakeholders should consult Exchange Control Direction Number 17 (2025), available on the Central Bank’s website at www.centralbank.org.bz.
