The Central Bank of Belize is pleased to announce that the new National Symbols Coin Series will officially enter circulation on Friday, 18 September 2026. The series celebrates Belize's rich natural heritage and national identity. Minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, the new series complements the National Heroes banknote series introduced in 2025.
The new coins will be distributed through normal cash transactions at commercial banks, credit unions, and businesses throughout the country. They will circulate alongside the existing coin series featuring the late Queen Elizabeth II, which will remain valid legal tender. Members of the public are reminded that there is no need to deposit or exchange existing coins, as both series will continue to circulate concurrently.
To commemorate the launch of the series, the Central Bank will issue a limited-edition painted fifty-cent collector's coin featuring the Mahogany Tree. This commemorative piece will be sold exclusively as a numismatic item and will not enter general circulation. The commemorative coin will be available for purchase beginning 18 September 2026, either as an individual collector's coin or as part of a complete National Symbols Coin Series collector's set.
The Central Bank encourages the public to visit www.centralbank.org.bz for more information on the National Symbols Coin Series, including the full circulation coin gallery, the design reveal video, details on how to purchase collectible coins, and a range of educational resources.
