The Central Bank of Belize (the Central Bank) advises the public to remain vigilant following reports of fraudulent phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent the Central Bank.
The Central Bank has received multiple reports of callers using Google Meets to impersonate representatives of the institution and requesting personal or banking information from members of the public.
These calls are fraudulent and should not be trusted. The public is urged to take the following precautions to safeguard against potential scammers:
- Do not disclose passwords, PINs, banking details, credit card information, or other sensitive information to unsolicited callers.
- Do not engage with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly claiming to represent the Central Bank and requests sensitive financial information.
- End suspicious calls or online meetings immediately.
The Central Bank does not make unsolicited calls to members of the public requesting banking credentials, passwords, PINs, credit card information, or any other sensitive financial information.
The Central Bank encourages all members of the public to remain vigilant and share this advisory with family members and friends, as increased awareness can help prevent individuals from becoming victims of scam.
Stay alert. Protect your personal and financial information.
